Happy New Year! I’m a big fan of the holiday season and am always a little sad to see it go. The last few months of 2014 were full of hang-outs, crafting, parties and general merriment. What better way to remember the fun than looking at what I made, right?
Our knitting group had our annual Secret Santa gift exchange and whose name should I draw but Ann, the organizer of the whole shebang. Knowing that she was already down a surprise, I wanted to make sure my gift was super fun. Time to break out the book I’d been obsessing over since September: Faux Taxidermy Knits by Louise Walker
I had by eye on the Crocodile Make-up Bag because it combines my two hobbies: knitting and sewing. I got started on the chart and learned a little something: British designers write charts differently than Americans. Once you get the hang of it, it’s not so bad, but getting your head around the first ten rows or so is a bit of a challenge. From there, you’ll be flying to a finish project.
The assembly was pretty straightforward, but ultimately, you get to a point where you just have to suck it up and sew!
And eventually it all comes together!
I added a few more snaps to make sure that sucker stayed closed and sewed the eyes and nostrils on using yarn and duplicate stitch instead of felt. I was excited with the result and it made Ann smile during our gift exchange. Mission: Accomplished.
Shout out to MY Secret Santa (and future sewing camp buddy) Paula! More on that soon!
