This time of year, it can be tricky to talk about the projects your working on. The holidays mean you need to be a bit of a sneaky snake when it comes to your crafting. I, however, find myself positioned in a place where I have a tiny (let’s call it “cult” to sound cooler) online presence and that most of my family doesn’t look into, so I think the secret is safe this year!
In November, I had two cousins who require celebration. One had a birthday on November 13th. While we were traveling in New York, she said she’d like a pair of birthday mittens. Since I’m not in the habit of holding hands with her on the reg, I have no way of knowing if she has the same itty-bitty fingered, wide-plamed hands that I have. Therefore, I thought going ‘oversized yet warm’ would be the way to go. I’ve had Cruiser by Caitlyn Mayer in my queue for quite a while. It’s a got all the ingredients of a great gift pattern: free download + one skein + bit of visual interest. I’m sold!
These knit up in a flash in Paton’s Classic Wool in Jade Heather. That colorway, by the way? So lovely. Can’t recommend it enough. It’s one of those that’s just easy on the eyes while you’re knitting it, but makes cables look like one million dollars.
So, Happy Birthday to Meredith! May your second Chicago winter be a bit more comfortable now that you’ve got some hand-knit woolens.
